Power BI for the Business Analyst – Adelaide Feb 2018

AUD $1,644.50 Inc. GST

Not all Power BI, Power Pivot and Power Query training is created equal. This training course was developed and is taught by Matt Allington who is a career Excel Professional and Microsoft MVP specialising in the Microsoft Self Service BI Products.

One or Two Days Training?

This is a comprehensive 2 day training course or those that want to learn how to build their own data models using their own data.  Once the data model has been built, it can easily be shared with others in the organisation. If you don't want to get this deep into the tools, then consider only attending the common day 1 of this course.  The 1 day course is available here.

The More Comprehensive 2 Day Course

This 2 day course covers all of the content of the 1 day course and then goes on to focus on teaching business analysts how to model data using Power Pivot. Power Pivot is the core technology that makes all the analytical power of Power BI possible. Unlike some other learning resources, this course dives deep into the details of Power Pivot teaching you everything you really need to know to be good using all of these tools.

The term “Data Modelling” is not something that is familiar to most Excel Pros, and that is because data modelling has historically been done by IT on your behalf. But if you want to be good with Self Service BI using the Microsoft tools, you must learn how to become a data modeller using Power Pivot – this is exactly what you will learn in this class. Although the concepts are difficult to pick up via self learning, the expert approach from this live training course makes it accessible to any Excel Pro. At the end of the 2 days you will be well on you way to becoming a Power BI, Power Pivot and Power Query ninja.

Full details of this 2 day course are covered in this downloadable course brochure

Course Overview

Power BI

Microsoft is investing multiple millions of dollars developing products like Power BI, Power Pivot for Excel and Power Query for Excel.  This is driving high interest in the Excel Power User community because real business data experts can now deliver enterprise quality reporting and analytics from their own PC.   The good news is that the most useful capabilities in Power BI, Power Pivot and Power Query are conveniently the most learnable, but you will indeed need to learn them. In this two-day training, Matt Allington (Microsoft MVP and author of the books Learn to Write DAX and Supercharge Power BI) delivers a targeted training course that teaches you exactly what you need to know to get you on your personal BI journey.  Matt brings his 25 years of Commercial, Sales and IT experience plus his deep knowledge of these technologies to make this training tangible, practical and usable. This learning in this course will cover:

Day 1

  • How to get started using Power Pivot for Excel
  • The basics of data modelling including loading tables of data
  • A basic overview of the DAX language (Data Analysis Expressions).
  • In depth coverage of building visuals using Power BI Desktop
  • Sharing your reports with dashboards and work spaces using
  • Introduction to Power Query, and hands on learning of several reusable patterns that cover common use cases for loading ad hoc data.

Day 2

  • Accessing your data from wherever it is stored, and efficiently load it to your new BI tools
  • The basics of data modelling and how it is different to Excel.
  • Deep coverage of the fundamentals of the DAX language (Data Analysis Expressions).  You need to learn this if you want to get anywhere, but you can do it.
  • An introduction to some of the more powerful DAX functions, with explanations of how they work – you really need someone to explain these clearly, and that is what you get.

All participants will receive a free copy of the book Supercharge Power BI.  With this book you can continue your learning after the live training using the same familiar learning style covered in the course.
